GLO-JO® P.A.L.™

Recently Hooks & Hooligan’s evaluated several (4)

GLO-JO® P.A.L.™ (GJ PAL) Helmet Bands

during live burn training at the Florida State Fire College

(FSFC) in Ocala, Florida.  It should also

be noted that separate to this evaluation, we have been field testing this product for the last

six (6) months.

During the six month testing we have been able to use the GJ PAL on multiple

fires, vehicle accidents, and roadside emergencies in low light situations.  During this

evaluation process it has clearly demonstrated its effectiveness….. both during Highway

incidents at night and in the hand full of fires.

While at the FSFC, live burn testing was

conducted for one (1) day using their Metal Burn Building (Conex box).  This box is equivalent

to a Phase 3 Flashover Simulator.  The GJ PAL Helmet Band was distributed among the

instructors during these burns & feedback was extremely positive; as the participants were

able to maintain visibility of the instructors the entire time during each burn (light, moderate

& heavy smoke conditions).  The GJ PAL sustained twelve (12) consecutive burn evolutions;

thus enduring super heated conditions before we took them out of service.  All of the bands

that were evaluated continued to operate and generate light via there LED light source.  There

was some minor wear and tear showing in the form of warping and a weakening of an elastic

connection point and one failure.

All in all… when it comes to maintaining critical awareness

on the inside, I found that the GJ PAL Helmet Band to be an effective tool that can seriously

make the difference in your survival.  In addition, although this product is not bullet-proof; I

feel it has proved itself to be durable enough to sustain the necessary levels of heat, necessary

to be effective in structural firefighting.

Since our evaluation was completed the GJ PAL Helmet Bands have been redesigned and will

be out on the market the first part of

December 2014, thus representing a 3rd Generation of

GLO-JO® P.A.L.™ products

. Our feedback has allowed them to fix the issue we had with the

elastic attachment point and make some other very crucial modifications.  Furthermore the

band is now made of Kevlar webbing and

stitched with Kevlar thread.  The black rubber strap

design used to help secure the GLO-JO LED system a helmet has been upgraded to a hi

visibility lime green photo-luminescent (glow in the dark) silicon rubber; offering additional

redundancies to being seen.

As of yet, we have not field tested the new product design

changes; but we are

looking forward to seeing the scheduled improvements to a product we

feel can enhance safety in the field and on the training grounds.

All of the areas that Hooks &

Hooligans found to be deficient have been corrected, modified, and upgraded; to the point of

even including a new rechargeable version with the 3

rd Generation release.
